Use Cases — Share your location on your terms
LockNMap helps you share temporary, privacy‑controlled location links. Blur first, unlock with a password only for trusted people, and let links auto‑expire so nothing lingers.
Dating & Social Safety
1) Not sure about this person yet
You met on an app. The chat is fine, but they keep asking “Where do you live?” You don't want to give them your address yet. Share a LocknMap link instead. As the conversation matures, suggest meeting at a public place first. If trust builds after that, you can reveal the exact address later by sharing them the passcode.
Tiny recipe
- Blur radius: 100m
- Expiry: 1 week (Extend if you’re unsure even after 1 week)
- Note: “Will share passcode later.”
- DM to send
Sharing a temporary, neighbourhood link for now. Let’s meet in public first—if all good, I’ll provide the passcode later.
2) Safety check-in with a friend
Two simple ways to do this:
A) Passcode shared up front (trust-first backup).
You’re meeting someone new. Before you leave, send your trusted roommate/friend the link and the passcode, plus a time boundary: “I’ll be done by 10 pm and will text/call you after.” If they don’t hear from you within an hour of that time, they’re authorized to unlock and check the exact spot. This requires trust that they won’t open it unless needed.
B) Passcode held back (only if something feels off).
Send your friend the link without the code so they know the general area. If the vibe turns odd, you text them the passcode on the spot so they can unlock and see the exact address.
Tiny recipe
- Blur radius: 100m
- Expiry: 5h (covers meet + commute)
- Note: “If I text ‘pineapple’, unlock + call me.” or "Will share passcode if I feel weird."
- DM to friend (A)
Location link + passcode for tonight. If I don’t text/call by 11:00 pm, please unlock and ring me.
- DM to friend (B)
Sharing the location link without the passcode. I might send the passcode later if I smell something fishy—then please keep an eye on my chat and call if I don't send you a text/call by 11:00 pm.
3) Dating in conservative contexts
Discretion matters—family at home, paying guest rules, or a watchful neighborhood. Share a LocknMap link with an appropriate blur radius so plans can form without exposing your door. After the meeting, there’s no trail because the link expires as scheduled. If plans change—or anything feels off—you can revoke the link immediately.
Tiny recipe
- Blur radius: 200m
- Expiry: Today (or a short Custom window)
- Note: “Will share passcode later.”
- DM to send
Sharing the neighbourhood only for now. I’ll provide the passcode when you start.
Quick micro‑journey
Create link → choose Locked, set Today/4h, write a short note → share → unlock only when comfortable → let it auto-expire or revoke.
Safety checklist (short)
- Meet in public first when possible; provide the passcode later.
- Never put door numbers in the note.
- Prefer short expiries; revoke if plans change.
- Share passcodes by SMS/voice, not public channels.
- If someone pressures you to unlock early, don’t—send the passcode and revoke the link if you feel uncomfortable.
Red flags → revoke now: repeated "share passcode now" demands, sharing your link elsewhere, turning up far earlier than agreed.
Invite‑only Events & Meetups
For house parties, college/club meetups, and underground gigs where you want the vibe—without leaking an address trail. Every link is Locked; viewers see a blurred preview until they enter the passcode.
1) House party in an apartment or a college club meetup
You want friends-of-friends to know there’s a party, but you don’t want your flat number in screenshots. Post the LocknMap link in the group so people can know about the area; send the passcode only to RSVPs in DM. Include entry steps (gate, elevator, “keep the corridor quiet”) in that same DM.
Tiny recipe
- Blur radius: 100m
- Expiry: Tomorrow morning
- DM to RSVPs
Here's where the party is:[Party link]. Passcode will be shared at 7pm for confirmed guests only. Please don’t reshare; link auto-expires tomorrow.
3) Underground event / pop-up
Build hype without location leaks. Share a LocknMap link with a large blur radius publicly so everyone sees the blurred preview; send the passcode to ticket-holders an hour before doors via the ticketing channel.
Tiny recipe
- Blur radius: 200m
- Expiry: Event day + short buffer
- Note to ticket-holders
Final drop at 7pm: we’ll provide the passcode to unlock the location to ticket-holders before the event. Don’t reshare; link dies after the show.
Host micro‑journey
Create one Locked link → share the link widely → send the passcode only to confirmed guests along with any entry instructions → run the event → let the link auto-expire or revoke early with your admin code if plans end sooner.
Host checklist
- Keep flat/door numbers only in the passcode DM—never in the public post.
- Use short expiries (end-of-event or next-morning buffer).
- If screenshots circulate or the guest list drifts, revoke and issue a fresh Locked link + new passcode to RSVPs.
- For venues with security, include the exact phrase guests should say in the passcode DM.
One‑off Deals & Transactions
For Craigslist sales, short-term rental/PG viewings, low-key pickups, and one-time service visits—when you want commitment without leaking your address. Every link is Locked: people see a blurred preview ring, not your door. Links auto-expire, so locations don't linger in chats.
1) Selling furniture/electronics or showing a room
You want only serious people knowing about your location and turning up. Share your LocknMap link in the forum/community/classifieds group so the conversation can happen with basic context about the area from where the pickup needs to happen. Once you agree on a visit window, send the passcode—or wait until they confirm they’re on the way if you prefer an extra filter. After the pickup/viewing, the link expires and there’s no address trail in anyone’s chat.
Tiny recipe
- Blur radius: 200m (share link publicly; share passcode only after you fix a time / when they’re en route)
- Expiry: Today or 4 hours
- Line you can paste
I’ll share the passcode once we fix a time—or right before you’re on the way. The link expires tonight; please don’t reshare.
2) Discreet pickups or private, by-appointment services
Some visits are better kept low-key—no professions stated in public, no address floating around. Create LocknMap link per order/visit and send the passcode to the customer/visitor close to their ETA. They can see the neighborhood from the blurred preview ahead of time, which is enough for planning. Because links expire after the window, there’s no location trail left in chats.
(This also works great for home-baker or cloud-kitchen pickups.)
Tiny recipe
- Blur radius: 200m
- Expiry: Today (your pickup/visit window)
- Line you can paste
Your pickup/visit link is this: [Link]. Let me know when you start and I’ll text the passcode. The link will auto-expire after some time. Please don’t reshare.
3) Technician or repair visit
When negotiating price and details, you may want the worker to know the general neighborhood first. Share a Locked link early so they see the blurred area; once you’ve confirmed the booking and timing, send the passcode. After the job, let the link expire (or revoke), leaving no trail.
Tiny recipe
- Blur radius: 200m (share link for context; send passcode after booking is confirmed)
- Expiry: 4 hours (or until end of job)
- Line you can paste
Location link (locked) so you have the area. Once we confirm the time, I’ll share the passcode. The link expires after the visit.
Quick micro‑journey (host view)
Share Locked link → discuss and fix a time → send passcode close to arrival (and include any entry pointers in the same message) → hand-off/visit → link auto-expires (or revoke immediately).
Host checklist (quick)
- Post the Locked link on the listing/forum to give neighborhood context—public only sees the blur, not your door.
- Send the passcode after a time is set (or when buyer/visitor confirms they’re en route) to filter for commitment.
- One fresh link per buyer/order/visit for clean revokes and tidy history.
- Keep the passcode private (DM/SMS/voice) and include any entry pointers (gate/reception/parking) in the same message.
- Use a short expiry (Today/≈4h); let it auto-expire or revoke if plans change—no trail left in chats.
- Technicians & discreet pickups: share the Locked link during price/details chat for neighborhood context; send the passcode only after booking is confirmed.
